Summarize or translate with a clear question
Choose your output and keep the original as a reference.
Summarizing reduces content; translating changes the language. Choose for your task and always check important conclusions against the source.
Before you start
Define the goal: understand a report, locate ideas or read in another language.
Choose the task
Open the summary or translation tool and check its availability. If Folio says it cannot run, no result has been generated.
Review the options
For summaries, review the available length and output. For translation, check source and target languages before running.
Return to the source
Cross-check names, figures, negations and exceptions. A summary may omit details; machine translation may need terminology corrections.
If something does not go as expected
Fluent text does not establish accuracy. If a conclusion matters, locate the passage in the original that supports it.
The ideas you intend to use have been checked in the source document.
Now you know where to start.
